Since Thump started this series, dozens of labels have covered roughly the same territory, often without coming close to the excellence shown throughout this series. Highlights of this volume include Howard Johnson's "So Fine," Slave's "Watching You," Stephanie Mills' "Whatcha Gonna Do with My Lovin'," the Invisible Man Band's "All Night Thing," and James Brown's "Make It Funky."
