Van Helsing è un film d'azione del 2004, scritto e diretto da Stephen Sommers, con Hugh Jackman e Kate Beckinsale.
Il film è stato prodotto dalla Universal Pictures ed è basato sull'omonimo personaggio del romanzo Dracula di Bram Stoker
(anche se il nome del protagonista nel film è cambiato in Gabriel, mentre nel libro era Abraham).
La pellicola uscì nelle sale in contemporanea mondiale il 7 maggio 2004.
Oltre al Conte Dracula, antagonista di Van Helsing, nel film compaiono anche il dottor Jekyll e Mister Hyde,
il mostro di Frankenstein e l'Uomo Lupo, e tutte le atmosfere gotiche del cinema anni 60-70.

Transilvania, 1887.
Il film inizia in bianco e nero:
viene mostrato il dottor Victor Frankenstein ultimare la creazione della sua celeberrima creatura, aiutato dal servo gobbo Igor.
Mentre il suo castello è attaccato da una folla di contadini infuriati, fa la sua comparsa il famigerato Conte Dracula,
colui che ha fornito a Frankenstein gli strumenti per la creazione del mostro.
Egli uccide Victor spiegandogli che in realtà lo ha solo aiutato per avere la sua creatura,
che utilizzerà per dare vita ai suoi mostruosi figli.
Il Mostro si alza in piedi e dopo aver preso il cadavere del suo creatore, fugge all'interno di un mulino a vento, che viene incendiato dalla folla inferocita.
I contadini fuggono all'arrivo di Dracula e delle sue tre consorti: Aleera, Verona e Marishka, che osservano con orrore il mulino bruciare e crollare apparentemente uccidendo la creatura.
Un anno dopo, la setta segreta dei Cavaleri del Sacro Ordine alla Città del Vaticano ordina a Gabriel Van Helsing,
un cacciatore di demoni dal passato misterioso che ha appena ucciso Mr. Hyde nella Cattedrale di Notre-Dame a Parigi,
di recarsi in Transilvania per uccidere Dracula, così da assicurare l'accesso al paradiso alla nobile famiglia gitana Valerious il cui capostipite, 450 anni prima,
aveva giurato a Dio che i suoi discendenti non avrebbero mai trovato la pace prima che Dracula non fosse stato sconfitto definitivamente.
Nella missione Helsing viene accompagnato dal giovane frate Carl, novizio inventore che gli fornisce le armi per sconfiggere i vampiri.
Arrivati in un tetro villaggio della Transilvania, Van Helsing e Carl incontrano la principessa Anna Valerious...


Van Helsing is a 2004 American action horror film directed by Stephen Sommers.
It stars Hugh Jackman as vigilante monster hunter Gabriel Van Helsing, and Kate Beckinsale.
The film is an homage and tribute to the Universal Horror Monster films from the 1930s and '40s (also produced by Universal Studios), of which director Stephen Sommers is a fan.
The titular character was inspired by Abraham Van Helsing from Irish author Bram Stoker's novel Dracula.
Distributed by Universal Pictures, the film includes a number of monsters such as Count Dracula,
the Frankenstein's monster and werewolves in a way similar to the multi-monster movies that Universal produced in the 1940s, such as Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man and House of Dracula.

In 1887, Transylvanian Doctor Frankenstein (Samuel West) brings to life his Monster (Shuler Hensley) with the aid of his assistant Igor (Kevin J. O'Connor), and Count Dracula (Richard Roxburgh).
Dracula kills Victor Frankenstein after revealing that he helped him only so he could use Frankenstein's monster to bring his undead children to life.
Frankenstein's monster then escapes to a windmill, which is burned down by a pursuing mob.
The mob flees as Dracula and his three brides, Verona (Silvia Colloca), Aleera (Elena Anaya) and Marishka (Josie Maran), mourn the loss of Victor and their chance to bring their children to life.
One year later, the Knights of the Holy Order, stationed at the Vatican, dispatch Gabriel Van Helsing, who has amnesia, to kill Dracula.
He is also tasked with preventing the last of the Valerious family from falling into purgatory; the family swore to kill Dracula nine generations ago and is unable to enter Heaven until they succeed.
He is given a torn piece of paper with an insignia on it. He is joined by Carl (David Wenham), a friar who provides support and weapons.
Arriving in Transylvania, the two meet Anna Valerious (Kate Beckinsale)...
