Waterbone is a studio group of two musician-composers D. Kendall Jones and Jimmy Waldo. Tibet begins where Deep Forest left off, inspired this time by life and its sounds in the Himalayas, particularly the ceremonies. The basic style follows similar lines to the recordings of Deep Forest and Enigma - indigenous sounds like gongs, chanting monks, huge horns, flutes and singing children are imbedded in a chunky mix with plenty of overdubs, funky grooves and electronic melodies. You get the picture, a "worldy" album for a commercial market. Very catchy and cleverly put together, but musically superficially beautiful and not well able to be sustained for the full length of the album. Still, Deep Forest and Enigma fans should enjoy.

Usually i don't like to put my 2 cents in on a record, but when i heard the first deep groove on this cd i knew it had that sensual appeal i have been looking for, for a long time. I use this cd in my tantric circles and the ebb and flow of this music is altering to say the least.Deep bass lines and funky new age beats make this music a perfect fit for power yoga or anything dealing with the movement of energy.I guess this is a re-release of a classic cd that has been out of print for several years. Looks great and sounds even better.

Wow! This cd has been out of print for sometime now and is available once again. Finally, someone decided to re-release a great record from the group Waterbone.Looks like new packaging has spiced the look of the cd up. The music is timeless and explores musical genres beautifully. For fans of Deep Forest, Enigma and Dead Can Dance this record should be in your collection ALWAYS!! Glad to see this classic record is available again.

"Producer-musicians Jimmy Waldo and D. Kendall Jones traveled to Kathmandu to record the raw sample material for this trip-hop collage of Nepali singing, street chat, and instrumental performances. Recalling similar experiments like those of Deep Forest, Loop Guru, Transglobal Underground, and others, Waterbone's mosaic is pieced together over surging dance beats, albeit with more breath than straight house or techno grooves, and processed through shiny reverbs and cloudburst echoes. The cool "Eastern Girl" fits Tibetan bells into a Tangerine Dream-style rhythm pattern, while "Tantra" undulates to Nepali monk group chants, Euro-pop synthesizer melodies, and the charming voice of Lobsang, a Kathmandu girl, whose quarter-tone inflections soar over Waterbone's relentless house beat. Ethno-techno with a tuneful flair." -- James Rotondi (amazon.com)

"Waterbone is the creation of Don Jones (D. Kendall Jones) & Jimmy Waldo, produced by David Evans (David and Jimmy are also the guys behind Spirit Nation). Jimmy has been in, and around music studios all his life. He started out as a session player (keyboards and midi, mostly), as well as being a member of hard rock groups such as Quiet Riot and Blackthorne, as well as co-founding the band Alcatraz (with guitarist Steve Vai). Jimmy along with Don journeyed to Katmandu, spending weeks interacting and recording the harmonic heartbeat of a place of pristine holiness and simple pleasures, the archway to the Himalayas. The product was Waterbone's debut album Tibet, released in 1998. The debut album was stylistically similar to Deep Forest, but more on the trip-hop end of the spectrum, fusing dance beats with buddhist chants, jubilant choruses of Nepali and Tibetan children, and honks and thumps of indigenous, horns, drums, and flutes.

With Tibet's increasing recognition as one of the top world-beat albums of the late 90's, Waterbone followed the example of groups like Deep Forest and Enigma, moving away from the Himalayas and setting its site on the Middle East. Waldo and Jones traveled to Cairo, and with the assistance of percussionist Hossam Ramzy, embarked on a quest to record the finest singers and musicians in Egypt. Now with Arabic vocals and new instruments, like the quanoon, rebaba, nay, kawala, arghoul and doholla, recorded on the streets, in parades, and at ancient and sacred locations for authenticity. Waterbone managed to capture the spirit of Egypt in the 2003 release Orion Prophecy. Though region of focus had shifted the second album still carried Waterbone's signature of reverberating vocals woven within what I call the 'waah waah' atmospheric effect, accompanied with house beats. Also along with the superb new sounds of the 2003 release came a re-release of the out of print Tibet. Waldo and Jones are currently discussing what part of the world to explore next for the thrid installment from Waterbone." -- (source: Earth Rhythms)

Waterbone adds its magical musical touch to the sounds from the land of pharoahs and pyramids. The acclaimed studio duo made masterful field recordings of some of the best musicians in Egypt playing everything from the Nay (Egyptian flute) to teacups, and laid them over an electro-world musical foundation. Orion Prophecy is the follow-up to their smash debut, Tibet.

Reviews:

"This is the best of the best of the new wave of 'world electronica' music. Waterbone brings a warmth and a trippy originality to the normally sterile world of predictable beats."

--Rolling Stone

"In the age of the internet it's rare to find a band that is willing to travel half way around the world just to get it from the source. These guys do it right."

--CNN

I loved Tibet and waterbone once more wrapped me in the blamket of the worlds sounds and magicall voices. Its a wonderful combo of Trance meets the the world sound, as I said it's Natasha Atlis meets Enigma in the full moon of an Egyptian night.

Listen enjoy and let your mind be your Pilot on a wonderous journey!

Overall this is the best album I have heard yet just for staying power and playability.

Red Buddha takes off where this left off. And even though it is out of print everyone and thei rbrother uses samples form this one, even Karunesh and you can hear it in almost every eastern lounge album there is.

There can be only ONE! This is the one others followed but still cant beat.....
