Film producentów "Braveheart: Waleczne serce" powstał w oparciu o bestsellerową powieść "We Were soldiers once... and young" generała Harolda Moore'a, uczestnika tamtych wydarzeń. Weteran wojny w Korei podpułkownik Hall Moore (Mel Gibson) wraz z żoną (Madeleine Stowe) oraz dziećmi przybywają na ćwiczenia do bazy w Georgii. Szkoleniem świeżo upieczonych żołnierzy zajmuje się lojalny wobec dowódcy sierżant Plumely (Sam Elliott). Wkrótce on, jak i reszta żołnierzy z jednostki w Georgii dostają rozkaz wyjazdu do Wietnamu. Rozpoczyna się jedna z najbardziej krwawych bitew - w dolinie La Drang. 14 listopada 1965 roku Moore i jego 400 żołnierzy zmierzyło się z kilkukrotnie przewyższającą liczebnie armią Północnego Wietnamu. Film jest historią pierwszego starcia Amerykanów z regularną armią Wietnamu, które zamiast stać się przestrogą, było początkiem koszmaru. Wzruszająca opowieść o ludziach czynu i ich rodzinach, które przeżywały prawdziwą wojnę we własnych sercach, czekając na wieści z frontu.
