.
=========== We interrupt our regularly scheduled rant with this one:
.
OK, we last left our intrepid hero valiantly attempting to mount Crystal Meth Peaks ...
.
To quote Dustin Hoffman playing "Lenny", 'you need the deviate to tell you when you're blowing it!'.
.
(to "The Scene" ) You're blowing it!
.
I've assumed several guises since coming on the scene (pun intended) sometime in June of 2012. The first thing that brought me fuming out of the lurker's camp was a pnrase not initially coined "Gross Pixelation Error". I yelled and screamed and beat my less-than-mighty chest (how can you claim changes due to 'quality' that introduce more heaping piles of steaming ... crap? ). Just returning to the beloved XVID / AVI would have solved the problem immediately - but the agenda (hoo nose?) called for sticking to 'the plan' - regardless of their image. They were Gods and they knew it.
.
Seems "The Scene" don' listen to nobody ...
.
So I decided to enter the fray, first by bringing back AVI, then figuring out that while AVI could handle x264, most devices that could not handle MP4 also could not handle x264, no matter the container. Went back to basics and chose to encode ONLY XVID in my AVI (have released a couple of MP4s converted from network FLV).
.
And it seems people liked what I was doing. But my primary mission has never changed - get rid of the steaming piles of pixelated garbage where all was once pristine. And so in a place not far as the ether flies, I began reporting on exactly which files from which RG (ReleaseGroup) ALL from "The Scene" were responsible for the torrent of turds (see how I did that?). Turns out there is one single pair of "evil twins" called LOL (MP4) and DIMENSION (MKV) responsible for all but the rare mistakes any of us could make.
.
Is it just me or does everything from DIMENSION need to be cranked 600% volume?
.
And herein lies the problem - LOL / DIM would always release as a pair (of evil twins) and if something was damaged within one, it was identically damaged within the other. For instance, there is NO undamaged copy of "SVU.S14E09" in the known universe and seven of the nine episodes (before tonight's eight of ten) have come out damaged. Most are replaced within a day or two by my favorite phrase "WEB-DL" and sometimes on UseNet R&C (Rabbit and Carrot) or TrollHD will upload something from a US source (I call it NBCsrc, CBSsrc, etc ...) - so far, no luck on 1409. Just checked 1410 and it's just as damaged as always- curiously, it ALWAYS occurs within a minute after the opening credits - so LOL / DIM are doing something with that encoding computer that screws it up every time. And no outlook commits them to fixing such an obvious problem. Sigh ...
.
Anyway, my prime mission had me simply reporting on which files were damaged and at what time (i.e. - "Gross Pixelation Error" @ 05:33). Well, it was actually about twenty lines of fluff explaining what I was doing, to be fair.
.
And then this really strange thing started to happen - my secondary cause (provide XVID / AVI) was taking off so well that I started being "respected", which if you've never uploaded anything means A LOTs.
.
And then the hammer came down, I got my comeuppance and in a more sober light, they were right, I was wrong. You see, not being able to criticise "The Scene", LOL or DIMENSION directly, I was only able to go up the food chain as far as their distro system (distribution). Turns out I was picking on the wrong people as Gods almost never show up in person. Anyway, seeing that I was leaving so many negative comments about legitimately damaged files, I was beginning to be seen as a possible spammer (if there's that much damage that just reporting on it is in spam amounts ...).
.
So, I shut down on that front immediately as I'm pretty sure something has leaked upstream by now (I'm a noisey guy, huh?) and I think it has.
.
Maybe it's just the holiday season, but tonight's episode of Whitney is being presented by DIMENSION (as always), but also by 2HD (wow!).
.
So, now I have to do some studying - is it really 2HD (99 44/100% pure)? Does the LOL / DIM mean they've finally solved the pixelation problem and it's (heh) MP4 related? Stay tuned, reports forthcoming (boy, those shards sure look inviting ...).
