Description

Wishbone Ash - Blue Horizon (2014) [Gorgatz]

- I N F O -

Wishbone Ash is a band that has been around for a long, long time. Of course, the original incarnation had disintegrated many years prior with Ted Turner (guitars/vocals) leaving after the band's fine work on Wishbone Four (1973), Martin Turner (bass/vocals) departing before Number The Brave (1981), Steve Upton after the extraordinary Here To Hear album from 1989, and Laurie Wisefield (who replaced the departing Ted Turner) leaving after Raw To The Bone (1985). The original lineup, sans Laurie Wisefield, regrouped for the Nouveau Speaks instrumental released by IRS Records, and the following (and previously mentioned) Hear To Hear. By the arrival of Illuminations in 1996, only original member, Andy Powell, remained.

Since Illuminations, the Andy Powell-led Wishbone Ash has released four other albums including Bona Fide (2002), Clan Destiny (2006), The Power Of Eternity (2007), and Elegant Stealth (2011). All of these albums were excellent issues.

For those that vividly remember the early years of Wishbone Ash, especially with their time-honored Argus album, it is important to note that with the band, as it stands today, will have a different sound than Argus provided, or any that featured the two lineups heard on MCA Records and Atlantic Records. To be fair, some fans have had to adjust to the addition of Laurie Wisefield when he joined back in the early '70s. His guitar apporach and vocal deliveries were different than Ted Turner. But adjustments to the creative process of some bands, including several iterations of Wishbone Ash, are not unique to the few. Aerosmith had adjustments, The Rolling Stones had adjustment. It happens.

Fortunately for fans, bands can make great music when core creative members remain intact. This is true for Wishbone Ash. Over the years, Andy Powell has shaped the band to produce memorable music that can shelf with previous lineups, and well too. Elegant Stealth delivered a genuinely good collection of songs with which to build on the Wishbone Ash legacy.

On February 21, Wishbone Ash will release their new album, Blue Horizon. The album will contain new ten brand new tracks. Below, you will find the album release trailer with a song from the new set. If you were to ask me, the new song is a classic spin from from the earlier era of the band. And well played it is. That makes me even more excited to hear the album completely, more than I already am.

If you're a Rock fan from the '70s, then this album will give you not only a new Wishbone Ash album to enjoy, but, judging by the gifted song (I've only heard this one track), I'd say we're in for a big,big treat.
