EDIT: I've removed my -1 as it is now being seeded.

I came from the "Adopt an Uploader" thread, and intend to seed it for a week or so. When I made that comment, I (and all the peers I was connected to) was still at 0%.

Try enabling 'initial seeding'/'super seeding' mode and stopping/pausing all other torrents you're seeding until more people can become seeders.

I typically turn it off after the initial wave or a day. It really depends on the size of the torrent and the ratio of seeds:leeches.

If the torrent is large (compared to your upload speed) or if there is a lot of leeches compared to the seeds (say 5:1 or more), it's a good idea to use initial seeding/super seeding.

Leaving initial seeding on won't hurt anything, but when you have more seeds than leeches, 'normal' seeding tends to be better.
