Here we have the classic Beatles animated feature length movie. Second in the rEDux series, again all the dialogue is deleted, so that the dvd plays continuous music tracks, while retaining the video to watch if desired. The movie was released in 1968, when the icons of the music industry were at their peak. Sgt. Pepper was some of their best work, and the genius was flowing. The original DVD has an outstanding dd 5.1 sound track as well as a music only track that is used for this release. The musical selections are in the same order as the movie. The audio is what amazes me. The audio people did a fantastic job. For some unknown (ie stupid) reason, the original DVD was released in 4:3 aspect ratio. This is a major blunder for a movie that was filmed in 16:9. Anyhow, the frame is cropped and re-encoded in 16:9 so it plays back in widescreen hardware properly (ie fills the screen). The original video is also quite grainy. The rEDux video bitrate here is rather low (SVCD), to conserve bandwidth, but should look ok. There are chapters at the beginning of each song, so you can hit the remote control button to skip ahead. I considered using some filters to fix up (smooth) the video, but the main thing here is the great music and soundtrack quality. Put it in your DVD player and it should start playing. It sounds twice as good as the CD on a good home theater system.
