Absolute Pimsleur's Japanese I-III [MP3]

I was making up my own medium-length sentences by the sixth or eight audio file (of course limited to the vocabulary that had been taught by then, which is more than you'd think!). The grammar is taught, just not in a boring way like how it's taught in American schools (which I hated). If you want to learn more about Pimsleur's, I'd suggest Google.

It's not required or even recommended for you to be following a textbook for this program. Just listen to the first couple of lessons and you'll understand; it's a completely integrated experience. The only thing you won't learn from this is reading/writing.

If you insert "Pimsleur Japanese I, II, III Audio Dialog Notes By: Martin E. Psinas" on Google, you will be directed to the transcriptions for the initial dialogs and important words from every lesson. It is something similar to the transcriptions made for level 1, although not so detailed as those, but helpful nevertheless. I wish I had find this sooner.

Rosetta Stone can eat me trying to charge what they do for that shit. It makes me want to pay for this. I learned more in an hour with this than days with Rosetta Stone.

I found Rosetta Stone to be... annoying. They don't explain anything, they expect you to just pick it up through context. Not everyone likes learning that way (I certainly didn't). Pimsleur's actually explains shit, and prepares you to build your own sentences early on.

@evilelect Well I'll tell ya what, if you decide to pay for Pimsleur's Japanese, get the digital version (currently $335, about half the cost of the CDs @ $695). Dunno why you'd bother paying for it though, if you already have this downloaded. Maybe pay for something else, like a course on reading and writing Japanese... or maybe buy a different Pimsleur course than Japanese. Then, if you have a change of heart, you can be a pirate yourself and create a torrent for the rest of us. It's a win-win.

I don't think Rosetta Stone is bad. Quite the contrary, I think Rosetta Stone is very good at what it does. The one big problem with RS is that it isn't meant for beginners, in my opinion. Many people go to Rosetta Stone Japanese thinking it will teach the basics but it won't, and that's why I think there are so many people displeased with it.

@Starconqueror If only RS wasn't marketed to beginners, there'd be no problem then. ;) The commercials I remember were about people who needed to learn fast, say for a business trip to another country. Maybe some people can learn fast with Rosetta Stone, but I think you can learn to speak/understand faster with Pimsleur's (though it doesn't cover the written language).

Those are the latest editions; they sell them like this as a set, despite their editions being different. They've updated them separately over the years, apparently reworking the first set one more time than the other two!

(So no, it doesn't matter. They still go together.)
