Description Richard Arnell had his greatest successes as a composer in the 1950s, when he drew the attention and praise of the well-known conductor, Thomas Beecham. After that point he began experimenting with mechanical and electronic sound, and drew far enough from both the traditional mainstream and the aleatory young turks to alienate nearly all backers. His Third Symphony was a product of the mid-1940s. It's been called his War Symphony, given its tumultuous, in-your-face approach. The work shows Arnell in full control of his idiom, if without the orchestral brillance he would soon acquire after studying modern American and Soviet works. Transfers are now made at 256 kBits/s, directly from the disc. A bio is enclosed.
