Album Notes

Producers: Doug Stone, James Stroud, Doug Johnson.

Fans will rejoice at this "best of" collection from Doug Stone, the man with the smoothest baritones in country music.

VOLUME 1 includes such early hits as "I Thought It Was You"; the tear-in-the-beer "Warning Labels" (as in "they oughta put warning labels on those sad country songs"); and the sorry-for-himself lament "I'd Be Better Off (In A Pine Box)." It also contains the tender new release "Little Houses," as well as the biggest song of Stone's career, the snappy honky tonk nugget "Jukebox With A Country Song." On other cuts Doug explores the nuances of relationships, from the obvious regretfulness of the upbeat "Why Didn't I Think Of That," to the wistful longing of "Different Light."

The ballad is, in fact, this sentimental crooner's forte; whether inspired by deep love or bottomless heartbreak, Stone's voice is able to reach deep into the listener's soul with its velvety, woeful inflections. At times, it has a similar vibrato to Aaron Neville, and the deep resonance of George Jones, combining to create a unique dramatic style.
