Hands Off! is an application to monitor and control the access of applications to your network and disks. Being able to monitor the normally unnoticeable activities enables you to make informed decisions regarding the transfer of your private information, hence avoiding confidential information leakage.

When connected to the Internet, applications can send any information stored on your computer to whoever they want without you ever knowing. Using Hands Off!, you can monitor and control Internet connections from all applications as to expose hidden connections and prevent them from sending data or phoning home without your consent.

Applications present on your computer can freely read, store or erase information on your computer without your knowledge. Using Hands Off!, you can monitor and control disk access from all applications as to prevent them from obtaining confidential information, erasing your data or storing cookies.

The best way to find out if Hands Off! suits your needs is to download the latest version and try the demonstration mode.

Instructions:
1. Drag/copy the original program from the .dmg downloaded from the developer to your Applications folder.

2. DON'T launch the installed program on your HD yet. Run this patch against it instead. Drag the program icon from your HD into the patcher window, or Select it using the button provided.

3. Once the patch reports successful, you can launch Hands Off! and register it - using any name you like. However, this only applies to Snow Leo and Mountain Lion OS's. Read below for Mavericks (10.9):

NOTE: On Mavericks OS, the Hands Off! installation will throw a warning to state the installer is unstable (or words like that). Just do as instructed, and perform a Normal (NOT a full) uninstall. Restart, and then re-launch the program that you patched (which is still in your Application folder). Installation will continue without a hitch, and then do steps 4 and 5 below.

4. To register, click the Register button and type in the following prefix: HDOF2-4CEDC6 followed immediately by the name of your choice. You will need to do this twice: once in the Registration screen that pops up during installation. After that, your registration name will NOT show. Now go to the "Register" menu item available from the Application menu and repeat the identical process.

5.The registration now sticks, and the program functionality is perfect.(Your chosen name may disappear on next launch, but it's fully registered).

6.Remember - this is a single-version [k]. Do NOT update Hands Off!

NOTE: I am on Mavericks and had version 2.0.9 installed and did not have to do any of the uninstall stuff. I just copied over the new version, ran the patch on it, then launched it. It said it needed to "upgrade" itself. I hit the upgrade button after which it needs to reboot the computer. After rebooting i launched the program again and it was working like normal. I followed the registration instructions in step 4 just for good measure as well.
