This is the very first official program hour broadcast by Hearts of Space Radio Station on January 3, 1983. This program has not been uploaded here previously, and I felt it was overdue for an airing. The producer's introduction is included in the first song, but the last song does not contain voice overs. 1983...the year before the infamous 1984. It seems lifetimes ago, but that was the year that a syndicated music program called HEARTS of SPACE began to appear on public radio stations around the U.S. And that means that 2008 is the 25th anniversary of the national program.

To celebrate our 25th year, we've selected 25 programs that give an overview of the series and the sound we call ambient, space and contemplative music. We're going to call the series "25 YEARS IN SPACE."

Beginnings take on more significance over time, so we'll begin the series with Program Number One, "FIRST FLIGHT." On our premiere program, we featured music by a group of artists who became familiar names in the HEARTS of SPACE pantheon of composers. It's a journey across 25 years of time...and space.
