Group info

Girlschool is a group of British heavy metal band formed in 1978. It is one of the few all-female metal bands, and it is the female rock group that has the longest duration of existence, still active for more thirty years. It is particularly known for his frequent collaborations with Motörhead.

In 1975, singer-guitarist Kim McAuliffe and bassist-vocalist Enid Williams founded the teenage group Painted Lady, with various other musicians over the years, including the guitarist Deirdre Cartwright (en) (future host of the TV show Rockschool ( in)) and the American Kathy Valentine (en) (bassist future Go-Go's). After a period of inactivity, they re-activate the group in April 1978, joined by the guitarist-singer Kelly Johnson and Denise Dufort harvester, changing name for "Girlschool" after the title "B side" of the single Mull of Kyntyre Paul McCartney & Wings released the previous year.
