Among others, the behavior of a ship in seaway has a large in‡uence on: - the safety of passengers, crew, cargo and ship, - the comfort of passengers and crew, - the dynamic loads on the ‡oating structure, its cargo or its equipment and - the sustained sea speed of the ship and the fuel consumption of its propulsion plant. The motions of a ship or o¤shore structure in waves are important from a safety point of view. Roll motions combined with lateral wind loads can cause dangerous heeling angles or even capsizing.
