Released on the Peaceville label in 2012, KATATONIA’s home for the past fourteen years, ‘Dead End Kings’ was the band’s most successful album to date, and cemented KATATONIA’s position as masters of a unique kind of hard-edged Atmospheric Rock.
In September 2013, the band unexpectedly return with ‘Dethroned & Uncrowned’, a radical reinterpretation of ‘Dead End Kings’ and the band’s first release on K-Scope, Peaceville’s sister label.
‘Dethroned & Uncrowned’ finds KATATONIA exploring the more Ambient and Progressive elements of ‘Dead End Kings’, while remaining truthful to the core of the album’s songs.

Katatonia is a Swedish metal band formed in Stockholm in 1991 by Jonas Renkse (formerly known as Lord Seth) and Anders Nyström (formerly known as Blakkheim). The early Katatonia albums, along with albums by bands such as My Dying Bride, Anathema and Paradise Lost, are sometimes considered forerunners of the death/doom genre.

Katatonia was formed in 1991 by Anders Nyström and Jonas Renske & their debut album, ‘Dance of December Souls’, was released in 1993, gaining the band recognition for their eclectic brand of gothic doom/death metal & joining acts such as Paradise Lost & My Dying Bride as one of the genre’s defining bands. On future albums a newer, sleeker Katatonia sound came to the fore, starting with a streamlined & structured collection of melodic dark rock songs that became third album ‘Discouraged Ones’; the main evolution point for modern day Katatonia.
