Background Info

During the 1960's, there was an increased demand for new rail equipment to support the ever-growing auto industry. Pullman-Standard, along with Greenville and Thrall Car, produced similar variations on the same car type to meet the needs of the industry. The 86' auto parts boxcar is a real heavyweight, at almost 60 tons tare weight, and a gross rail load of 263000 lbs. The 86' auto parts boxcar can still be seen plying their trade to this day, moving large auto manufacturing components to destinations across the United States and Canada.
