Josephine Tey 01 - An Expert In Murder Josephine Tey 02 - Angel With Two Faces Josephine Tey 03 - Two For Sorrow Josephine Tey 04 - Fear In The Sunlight Josephine Tey 05 - The Death Of Lucy Kyte Josephine Tey 06 - London Rain ABOUT THE BOOK They were the most horrific crimes of a new century: the murders of newborn innocents for which two British women were hanged at Holloway Prison in1903. Decades later, mystery writer Josephine Tey has decided to write a novel based on Amelia Sach and Annie Walters, the notorious “Finchley baby farmers,” unaware that her research will entangle her in the desperate hunt for a modern-day killer. A young seamstress—an ex-convict determined to reform—has been found brutally slain in the studio of Tey’s friends, the Motley sisters, amid preparations for a star-studded charity gala. Despite initial appearances, Inspector Archie Penrose is not convinced this murder is the result of a long-standing domestic feud—and a horrific accident involving a second young woman soon after supports his convictions. Now he and his friend Josephine must unmask a sadistic killer before more blood flows—as the repercussions of unthinkable crimes of the past reach out to destroy those left behind long after justice has been served. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Nicola Upson was born in Suffolk and read English at Downing College, Cambridge. She has worked in theatre and as a freelance journalist, and is the author of two non-fiction works and the recipient of an Escalator Award from the Arts Council England. Her debut novel, An Expert in Murder, was the first in a series of crime novels to feature Josephine Tey, one of the leading authors of Britain's age of crime-writing. The book was dramatised by BBC Scotland for Woman's Hour, and praised by PD James as marking 'the arrival of a new and assured talent'. Nicola lives with her partner in Cambridge and Cornwall, which was the setting for her second novel, Angel With Two Faces. The third book in the series, Two for Sorrow, was followed by Fear in the Sunlight and, most recently, The Death of Lucy Kyte. Taken together, they paint an atmospheric picture of England between the wars, contrasting the stark reality of life in the 1930s and 40s with the glamorous world of theatre and film and featuring a variety of real characters, from the Edwardian murderers, Amelia Sach and Annie Walters, to the Master of Suspense, Alfred Hitchcock. Her research for the books has included many conversations with people who lived through the period and who knew Josephine Tey well, most notably Sir John Gielgud. ABOUT THE READER Sandra Duncan was born in Liverpool and trained as an actor at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. After drama school she performed many roles in repertory. In the 1970s she was invited to South Africa to appear in a play and stayed for nineteen years and won fifteen "best actress" awards. Sandra returned to England in 1993, experiencing a huge cultural shock and continued her work in the theatre. Sandra played Mrs. Birling in the Royal National Theatre production of J.B. Priestly's An Inspector Calls which successfully toured Australia and other parts of the English-speaking world throughout the 2000s. Like many theatre performers, Sandra Duncan has also appeared on television, both in England and during her life in South Africa.
