Sanne Salomonsen's 1996 album, simply entitled "1996". "1996" was partly recorded in Hornbaek and Copenhagen in Denmark and partly Stockholm, Sweden and was co-produced by Danish actor/singer/composer Nikolaj Steen and Swedish composer/producer Leif Larson (Marie Fredriksson/Roxette, Louise Hoffsten, Faith Hill etc.), who also wrote most of the material, and with Sanne as executive producer. The album marked a return to a more contemporary and altogether heavier and rougher sound than on 1991's "Where Blue Begins" and 1994's "Language Of The Heart", Sanne herself described the set as "feminine grunge" at the time.



"1996" was entirely recorded in both Danish and English, the song chosen to promote the album in the UK and Continental Europe was however neither "Den Lille Løgn" nor "Gadebarn", the two Scandinavian hit singles, but the opening track "Mødet Med Din Mund", in English retitled "Win Me Your Love".



The album's artwork portrays Indian gods and godesses (the title of one of the tracks on the Danish language version), which partly also is reflected in the production in the form of sitars and tablas.



The lyrics to "Den Lille Løgn" are slightly controversial, describing the married businessman who, when he tells his wife he needs to go to an urgent business meeting in the evening, as usual sneaks off to the Red Light district to "all those little girls, ready to do whatever he wants them to do", something his wife suspects but never tells him. "If he only knew that his little secret, that little lie, is what separates them and turns her love into hate. And tonight when he comes home she'll get the truth out of him..."
