TWV: Telemann-Werke-Verzeichnis (From Wikipedia)

The Telemann-Werke-Verzeichnis (Telemann Works Catalogue), abbreviated TWV, is the numbering system identifying compositions by Georg Philipp Telemann, published by Martin Ruhnke.

The prefix TWV is generally followed by a genre number, a letter indicating the key (in some cases), and a work number. The genre number indicates the general type or medium of the work. A major key is in upper case, a minor key in lower case. The second number is the work's number within the genre. For example, Telemann's Concerto polonois in B flat major for strings and basso continuo is TWV 43:B3. His Orchestral suite in D major is TWV 55:D18, and his Overture in G minor is TWV 55:g4.

Vocal works were catalogued in a similar way by Werner Menke in the Telemann-Vokalwerke-Verzeichnis (Telemann Vocal Works Catalogue), abbreviated TVWV. The six concerto gems on the eighth and last CD of our complete recording of Telemann’s wind concertos once again display a great many different ensemble groupings (and often unusual ones), concerto procedures, and forms as well as some broadly dimensioned works. Prof. Wolfgang Hirschmann, the author of our booklet text, writes: »Held together by the gravitational center of a firmly delineated, clearly recognizable style, Telemann’s concertos develop a cosmos of the most finely sensitive music, and delving into it most richly rewards listeners even today and at the same time enables them to experience why it was that Telemann was regarded by his contemporaries simply as ‘Megalander‘ (Johann Mattheson), as a ‘grand man,‘ as a towering musical personality. We also have Prof. Hirschmann to thank for the inclusion of a list ordering all the concertos presented on the eight CDs according to the instruments employed and indicating their keys, TWV numbers, and CD and track numbers.

The orchestra La Stagione Frankfurt has for many years been counted among the most successful ensembles in the field of authentic music performance.

Camerata Köln

The ensemble Cologne Camerata — Camerata Köln is one of the most long-loved chamber music ensembles for early music in the world. Under the name of Camerata Köln a handful of music students founded the ensemble in 1979 at the music conservatoire in Cologne. Ever since then, enthusiasm for the music of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the desire and imagination to pursue wholly new sounds and forms of interpretation, artistic approaches and stage presence in combination with a great deal of research and spontaneous desire for music making have marked the work of the ensemble and their international concerts.

After many years and extensive engagement with the better and lesser-known composers of the baroque and classic periods, the members of the ensemble Michael Schneider, Karl Kaiser, Christine Busch, Rainer Zipperling und Sabine Bauer consider themselves ambassadors of a musical art which, despite having been penned a long time ago, can still move modern audiences emotionally, spiritually and aesthetically, and can therefore be called "contemporary".

Emotion, energy and structure are the major theme which Monteverdi, Bach and Haydn made the objects of their art; and it is these topics which build a bridge to the present and current needs of audiences. The intention of art today continues to unite and present the complexities of the various aspects of human forms of expression.
