SLI Via Rail P42DC LRC Trainset

In the early 1980's, Bombardier Transportation built the LRC, which stands for 'Light, Rapid, Comfortable', for VIA Rail Canada. The LRC equipment, which consisted of diesel electric locomotives and passenger cars, was designed to replace VIA's aging fleet of steam heated 1940's and 50's vintage passenger equipment. The LRC locomotives, which were designed in the same fashion as the passenger cars, operated for approximately 20 years before being retired from service and replaced by the GE P42DC locomotives. The LRC cars have been in service over 30 years, and are still going strong. The entire fleet is currently being refurbished to extend their operating lifespan.

The GE P42DC entered service with VIA Rail when the LRC locomotives were retired (circa 2000-2001). VIA currently has 20 P42s on the roster, and they have been the primary locomotive used to haul LRC equipment in VIA's Quebec City QC. - Windsor ON. corridor. The VIA P42DC is somewhat different than its Amtrak counterparts. It has a third headlight mounted above the main headlight housing, it does not have a bolted nose piece, and it has an electronic bell versus a steel bell.

This product represents a VIA corridor LRC trainset as it has appeared since 2001 to present.
